Grand Haven Lights Up the Waterfront for a Cause — “Trees for a Cause” Brings Community, Creativity, and Compassion Together at Snug Harbor

Grand Haven, MI — This holiday season, Grand Haven’s waterfront will glow brighter than ever as Snug Harbor and the non-profit i understand host “Trees for a Cause,” a festive Christmas Tree Decorating Competition and Silent Auction designed to bring the community together for an evening of joy, creativity, and purpose.

The event takes place Saturday, November 29, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM on Snug Harbor’s heated waterfront deck, transforming the harbor into a twinkling holiday showcase with a cause that hits close to home for many.

Funds raised through the silent auction of decorated trees will benefit i understand, a Grand Rapids-based organization providing education, hope, and support to individuals and families affected by suicide or mental/brain health illness and pain.

“This isn’t just about decorating trees,” says Steve Loftis, Owner of Snug Harbor. “It’s about lighting up lives bringing people together, celebrating creativity, and showing support for those who need it most during the holidays.”

Fifteen teams made up of local businesses, families, and community members will decorate six-foot trees with their own creative themes. After judging and public voting, the trees will be auctioned off to raise funds, with two trees donated to the Salvation Army to brighten the holidays for local families in need.

Guests will enjoy a $10 chili and appetizer bar, holiday cocktail specials, and Snug Harbor’s famous harbor-view ambiance. The event promises festive energy, heart-warming stories, and a truly local holiday experience.
